Wonders of the World Nominee: Terracotta Warriors

The discovery of the Terracotta Warriors in 1974 in Xian, China is considered to be one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th Century. Although the site is not fully excavated, it is believed to contain approximately 10,000 life sized figures. The Terracotta Warriors were constructed in the 3rd Century BC by the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty: Qin Shi Huang. The Emperor built the army with the belief that these warriors were supposed to protect him in the afterlife. Each warrior has a unique look and a unique facial expression. Some experts say that each soldier resembles a real life soldier of the time.
