Wonders of the World Nominee: Delphi

Delphi is an ancient city in Greece that was the site of the Oracle of Delphi, the most historic oracle in ancient Greek Civilization. The Oracle was of extreme importance to the ancient Greeks and she was consulted before every major decision was made, including decisions to go to war. The Oracle usually spoke in riddles which were then translated by priests. Other important buildings at Delphi include the Temple of Apollo, the various Treasuries, the stadium, and the spectacular theatre that is shown in the picture to the right. Today, the modern city of Delphi is situated just off the ruins and is a popular tourist destination.
