Getting to the Pyramids of Giza

Visiting the Pyramids of Giza is not as hard as it may seem. Despite the fact that the Pyramids of Giza appear to be located in the middle of the desert, they are in fact located immediately outside the modern metropolitan area of Cairo, Egypt. Taking a Mediterranean cruise is probably the best way to see the Pyramids of Giza; your whole trip will be planned for you so you won't have to worry about transportation to and from the pyramids. Flying into Cairo is another good way to get to the Pyramids of Giza, especially if you want to explore the other great sites in the city. The Cairo International Airport is a very modern airport and it is easy to find a taxi to get to your hotel. To get to the Pyramids, the easiest and cheapest way is to take the orange line Metro (the subway) to the Giza exit, and then take the Al-Haram shuttle bus which will take you to the Pyramids. The Metro is a very safe and cheap way to travel within the city. Another way is just to get a taxi; this is not recommended since pricing is never consistent and always very high. Only use a taxi if you have no other choice. Driving yourself in Cairo is also not recommended and is in fact very dangerous! Traffic laws are routinely ignored in the city. Once at the pyramids, you will have the option of hiring a tour guide or going it alone. Some tour guides are better than others and there have been some reports of guides demanding a large tip. If you choose to hire a tour guide, it is best that you approach them, rather than vice versa. If you want to tour the pyramids on your own, using our Pyramids of Giza Guide Map is ideal for a self guided tour and for navigating the pyramid complex.
